Self Care Isn’t Just For Sunday’s

Self-care isn’t a selfish act even though it has the word self in it. I want you to think about something; you know when you board a plane & they go over all the safety exists, then they talk about if the masks fall make sure you put your own on first before assisting others. In reality you are no good to anyone else if you don’t first take care of yourself. So self care isn’t just for Sunday’s, it’s everyday that ends in Y.

Self check in

I want you to think back on when the last time you really checked in on yourself. A time when you sat in a distracted free space, and took a few deep breaths to just notice how your body felt, what your mental state was? How you are feeling emotionally? This might feel like a simple task however the profound benefits are a whole other blog.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a powerful thing; it allows us to slow the world down around us and disrupts the repeated stimulation we are conditioned to. The world around us is in constant motion; we are doing things, posting things, always trying to be more, do more, be better, hustle, get ahead, succeed. It can all feel overwhelming and at times leads us down the path of anxiety, stress overload, burnout, and depression.

With this constant state of stress and chaos we tend to be in a reactive state. We are constantly on edge trying to keep up with the world around us. However the reality is we cannot and we shouldn’t.

The Power Of Slowing Down

Stop and smell the flowers” it is one of my all time favorite sayings when I am working with clients. Without getting into all the science behind mindfulness, MBSR, and Breathwork; I do however want to expand on the power of slowing down and smelling the flowers.

As I state previously when we slow down enough to check in with ourselves, our bodies, our emotions, and our thoughts we are disrupting the habit of reactivity. We are able to notice things with clarity and compassion because we are not so caught up in the craziness of the hustle. When we slow down to check in ourselves we are able to attended to our needs, which in turn fills up our cup so we can pour into those whom me love.

Self Care Isn’t Selfish

It is quite the opposite. It is necessary to take time for you. To reflect on your thoughts and emotions. To eat healthy food to replenish your body, and to rest in space that allows your body to rest and relax. Self care is for everyday that ends in Y not just for Sunday’s.
